This month, we are busy working with one of the largest auto processors in the world. While we remain in service to smaller residential and commercial clients, we are also part of developing a waterfront site in Antioch to create a new auto processing center for AMPORTS. We are encouraging clients to visit the site and see how Sikes Asphalt Group Inc., a local paving contractor in Santa Rosa, CA, can handle such a large project. If anything can reassure you as to our skills, this should do it! Here is what to know about this effort.
About the AMPORTS project
AMPORTS has headquarters in Florida and processing plants through the United States and Mexico. It has 50 years of experience in this industry, and its largest facility for auto processing is 640 acres. In its facilities, vehicles are inspected and detailed before they are sent out to various dealerships. Before the Antioch project started, there were two AMPORTS facilities in California. One is located in the Benicia Terminal near the San Francisco Bay, and the other in the Hueneme Terminal in Oxnard, CA in the southern portion of the state.
The City of Antioch welcomes the development. Located on the waterfront and zoned for heavy industrial, the site remained undeveloped since a paper mill was demolished in 2002. Once acquired by Commercial Develop Company, Inc. (CDC), it became AMPORTS’ newest site. The site features a pier on the San Joaquin River and access to rail shipping. There has been a push towards redeveloping the East Bay region, and this is a big part of that effort.
Moving, storing and parking cars requires substantial paving—as you likely imagine. That is where we come in on this essential element of the project. Someone must provide these needed asphalt services, and this will be the second time we’ve performed this service for AMPORTS.
Parking areas started unpaved with nothing but dirt and mud. Considering that AMPORTS prepares cars for sale, this is not exactly conducive to making them look their best. The only solution is a good-quality paved surface.
When we finished the work for AMPORTS in Benicia, CA, that lot was 174,652 square feet. Antioch has two different lots: one at 396,681 square feet and another at 359,501 square feet, making it a substantially larger and more challenging project.
However, we are never discouraged. We are enjoying this new opportunity to show that we are indeed the paving and concrete specialists. Also, employing a local business in these vast international efforts helps the economy and the neighboring communities. We are proud to be part of redeveloping the East Bay.
If we can handle this, there is no doubt we can fix your driveway, garage pad and patio. We also provide concrete services, so if you need a retailing wall or foundation, we are there for that project, too. If you have any doubts that we are the right choice, visit us and see how we are handling Antioch.
